Six Ways to Earn the “Best Host Ever” Title

We don’t always find ourselves traveling to see friends or family. At times the party comes to us! I’ve found ways to make my guests feel comfortable and welcomed! Try these six strategies to set the tone for a fantastic weekend.

Stock the guest room with essentials.

Don’t leave your guests dripping wet after their shower without a towel! Place items in their room upon arrival so they are very aware what is theirs to use. Suggestions for a welcome basket include but are not limited to a hand towel, bath towel, toothpaste, lotion, water bottle, q-tips, Kleenex, razer and mints.

Have snacks readily available.

Sometimes guests are hesitant to raid a pantry or make themselves food in fear of being rude. To eliminate the hesitancy, show guests where they can access snacks you’ve prepared. Don’t forget to accommodate those with dietary restrictions!

Give everyone enough sleep!

Do not plan really early morning activities or unload the dishwasher before everyone is awake. If everyone is well rested, the mood of the entire weekend will improve.

Don’t over-invite guests.

Set realistic expectations for how many people can fit in your home comfortably. Sure, it could be fun for a large group to crash for a night, but sleeping on the floor multiple nights in a row just doesn’t cut it anymore. Either split the cost for a portion of your group to stay at a nearby hotel, or only invite enough to fill the beds, couches and air mattresses.

Plan fun activities but also allow for R&R time.

It is easy to plan to share everything you love about your city with your guests, but that can be really overwhelming for travelers. Think about who you are hosting and what they might be interested in. Then match up your favorite things about your city with their interests. And don’t forget to plan in rest and relaxation time. It’s important to recharge!

Bring the energy.

Your people have traveled to see you!! They are going to vibe off your energy levels. Make sure they know you are excited and happy to have them with you. If this takes having that extra cocktail or stepping out for a morning jog alone, do it! Just make sure you are being a pleasant host.

By being aware of your guests’ needs and interests, you will come out on top! Best Host Ever Award coming your way!
